Shopping Tips

Cooking and preparing your own meals costs less than eating out at a restaurant. If you prepare food at home, you are more likely to eat healthier foods.

Tips to save money on your grocery bill:

  • Use coupons and frequent shopper cards.
  • Look in weekly ads and base your meals on what is on sale.
  • Purchase fruits and vegetables that are in season. They cost less and taste better.
  • Shop the perimeter of the store. The perimeter has fresh produce, proteins, dairy and grains. The middle of the store contains processed and more expensive foods.
  • Don’t shop hungry.

Meal Planning

Plan out every meal (including snacks) you will make for the entire week.

After you plan your meal, make a grocery list based on the ingredients you need. Try and plan meals that use the same ingredients. Always check what you have in the house before you go to the store.

This will help you to:

  • Stay organized
  • Save money
  • Eat healthier
  • Make less trips to the grocery store
  • Make large dishes and freeze them to eat at a later date, when you don’t have time to prepare a meal
